8-Bit HQ

8-Bit HQ David C.
Info:

The site seems to have been around for a while. But a site that says last updated in 2004 (now a blank screen) and said they just merged with NES Land when I know myself NES Land was with NES Channel back last year (NES Channel is dead too)! Like the Grim Reaper, I now pronounce you dead!

Last update: December 31, 2004

The 8-Bit Nirvana

The 8-Bit Nirvana Battl & The Doctor
Info:

All that's left to the site is an intro page sadly. I was told by Cracked8Ball that 8-bit Nirvana was ran back in 1999-2000 by two guys named Battl and The Doctor. It started on geocites before moving to disflux.net, and died when disflux went down. Each site has its story I guess.

Last update: 2000

8-Bit Online

8-Bit Online Dan whitton
Info:

A pretty dull site which is basically a journal entry of this guy who says some shit about his life which sometimes resolves around the NES... I think. There's reviews, articles, as well as a collection he owns, but other than that the site is rather black and white (literally). Also, this dick licker actually dissed the FANZ on the guestbook, so... he gets no love here.

8-Bitz: Experienced Playaz

8-Bitz: Experienced Playaz Koopa Killa
Info:

Often I have wished someone could some how combine my love for NES with my love for rap music. Of course, these gangstas got chased out of the ghetto or something because their site died out on me one night in 2006 and never came back! Don't forget to check out my over bands page!

Last update: June 17, 2006

The Castlevania Dungeon

The Castlevania Dungeon Kurt Kalata
Info:

A site hosted by classicgaming.com, this is by far the greatest Castlevania site. Back years ago, this site taught me more than I ever knew about the series... a site is powerful when it can do that. In 2006, the site was revamped by a site called the Inverted Dungeon.

Info:

ClawX, a fairly-well known dude in the NES Scene who supposedly lives in St. John's, NL (capital city of the place where I'm from). Anyways, way back when he made a site, comically titled, Claw's PeNES. Funny, huh? See, Claw has this funniness about him... he's not afraid to speak his mind and he curses a lot... its all over this site. Well, back in the NES Channel days (early 2005) he decided to finally update his site and added a couple of stuff and fix up the intro. At least its good for viewing now... check it out!

Last update: 2005

The Contra Headquarters

Jag's video Game Zone Jose A. Gutierrez
Info:

No matter how you slice it, this site is dead. Last updated in 2001, Jag's Video Game Zone features stuff on the NES and Sega Master System. I mean, the last thing the guy does is sell out by getting a Sega Dreamcast?

Kirby's Rainbow Resort

Kirby's Rainbow Resort KindarSPirit

L

LameNES

LameNES Lameass
Info:

This site truly is LAME. Not kidding, it is the name of the site. Another 2002 job, the site has some comics and is an "Official Toad Dad". I've seen this around quite a bit amongst old sites.

Mighty Mo's World

Mighty Mo's World Mighty mo
Info:

Mighty Mo has a pretty cool site. It contains pages on the NES, SNES, Genesis, Arcade and some more stuff.

N

NES?

NES? Thomas Otting
Info:

This site has a strange name, but other than that it's pretty good... yeah it was last updated in February of 2004, so that means it's dead, I saw some potential. Rambo rules!

Last update: February 2004

NES-A-Thon

NES-A-Thon Power Pad Man
Info:

This unique site focuses mainly on the idea of 24 hour NES. Well, since I'm "Mr. 24 Hours", this was a battle I refused to lose since I did sign up. I won but never did get a chance to send in my log of my 24 hours of NES since the FANZ was under construction then. The site died along with NES Channel.

Last update: May 16, 2005

NES 3000

NES 3000 Unknown
Info:

This NES site is in Italian, so I can't pick out a damn thing, but it is still flavorful. I wish I could read what the heck their saying.

NES Achievers

A wicked site that kept records and scores by NES players everywhere. Nick M. to to give up on NES Achievers and left this heartfelt and sad message.

Last update: August 12, 2005

NES Alley

NES Alley defgav
Info:

Another dead site, it had Bionic Commando and Milion's Secret Castle shrines, plus a whole lot of info on Rilo Kily (the band with the chick from "The Wizard" is in).

Last update: 2004

NES Alternative

NES Alternative blue exit, cracked8ball & campkill
Info:

NES Alternative was one of the greats, but has no home since NES Channel's death which is a shame.

Last update: May 16, 2005

NESbit.beta

NESbit.beta Jesse W. Nye
Info:

NESbit.beta was once NESbit, had a games list (with no games), downloads, and more. I think the webmaster maybe a relative of Bill Nye the Science Guy... who knows. The guy sure loves his SNES sprites though.

Last update: May 1, 2002

NES Biznitch

NES Biznitch Twitch
Info:

Another site by Smackdown GT webmaster, Twitch. He keeps it around for nostalgic purposes and therefore will probably never get updated.

Last update: November 29, 1998

The NES Cave Of Wonders

The NES Cave Of Wonders Lynx
Info:

This site has been around for years and neglected just the same. But, there's just something about the site that's cool... maybe it's the honesty of the laziness of the webmaster, or the SMB2 review... or maybe it's that Kirby pic... I'm still trying to figure it out.

Last update: October 22, 2002

NES Center

NES Center Yamato
Info:

This site is completely in German. I only wish I knew what they were saying.

NES Channel

NES Channel cracked8ball
Info:

A NES site hub of many NES sites which included: NES Nation, NES World Wide, NES Fort, Nintendo Intensity!, NES Site #0510, NES-A-Thon, NES Life, NES Land and NES Alternative, it was created in Jan. 2005 and died near the end of 2005, sadly. The hub with the pathetic link button died for reasons I can't answer. It had lots of potential and probably could've been used to host many other great sites or even merge all the sites into one huge site. Ironically enough, upon bring back NES Nation they did close a lot of sites just to put it in Nation. Of course, it was only a matter of time until the whole thing fell apart due to lack of interest or a two-faced staff: you be the judge.

Last update: May 16, 2005

NES Channel Forums cracked8ball
Info:

The very first forum I ever signed up in and my favorite I might add. There was just something about it. It used to be called NES Future Forums, I guess the new name suited it better. It was later hacked into by Slayer X and killed. Another attempt at NES Channel Forums was made by resurrecting NES Nation Forums as well as NES Nation itself. It ended with this, an e-mail I received from C8B:

First, the NES Forums are dead. Second, now channel is dead. Thirdly, making the fucking scene dead. And one more time: FUCK ALL YOU ALL. -SlayerX

Hmmm... there's that name again.

Last update: May 16, 2005

NES Chedda

NES Chedda FlowingMindSpin, MinkisP & jackalneo
Info:

A site that is now dead, it hasn't been updated in two years now. I looked at the site on March 7, 2005 and it's domain ran out or something... so I guess that puts the nail in the coffin for NES Chedda. You will be missed...

Last update: April 3, 2005

NES City

NES City NES monster, Weird-Edsel
Info:

NES City, one of the oldest NES sites on the net still running, has been given a major facelift and NES Monster (an old site) was merged with it. It had since went down but came over the summer. On August 2, 2006 however, Weird-Edsel threw in the towel with this message.

Last update: August 2, 2006

NES Classics

NES Classics MinkisP
Info:

From the same guy who made NES Chedda, this is an earlier site that sounded too plain. It's basically a prototype of NES Chedda.

Last update: 2002

NES Codes

NES Codes Neoro
Info:

This was a new site that had good stuff; a nice looking site with codes for every NES game. It sounded good but was taken down for reasons obvious. Regardless, it did inspire me to put up the Code Bank.

Neoro:

I took it down because I don't have a lot of time now. I know EightbitStereo was there, but he did the layout thing and I did codes thing. I e-mailed asked him if it was alright and he said yeah so I took it down. It's just both of us got tired of this place (meaning in general, not just here) and we had things to do. You know shit happens.

Last update: February 2005

NES Collectors Association

NES Collectors Association Harley gerken
Info:

Harley once made an all-NES version of EBay! It was cheaper, better, and more NES-friendly but I won about 10 games and got not one since! I e-mailed the quack and got no response so make your own thoughts for this. I guess that's what I get for trusting I guy with a pickle for a last name.

Last update: April 17, 2005

The NES Days

The NES Days Jon Hertzog
Info:

This is actually Twitch from Smackdown GT's old NES site, the NES Days is still updated by Jon Hertzog, and it looks pretty much like it did a few years ago. I get a kick out of it though.

Last update: June 7, 2003

NES El33t

NES El33t KingSushi
Info:

A site that was last updated in 2002, so I can only assume that it is now dead. It does however have interesting ideas and layout... I wonder why they stopped? Here's an insight on this site by a former staff member for NES El33t (and current asshole):

Cracked8Ball:

I used to be a staffer for NES El33t back in the day with Greenshyguy (then known as RandX). I believe the site was ended because the server was hacked and shut down in 2002, and the head webmaster (king sushi) had no more time or interest to work on it. As a way to preserve it, the remains were moved to silius.net.

Last update: December 20, 2002

NES Fan

NES Fan JoAnkhamun
Info:

The very first NES site I ever found on the web and what inspired my website, it had cool flash animations. One I remember was a parody of the intro to Ninja Gaiden 2 where Ashtar is talking to a minion and then the minion is attacked my Ryu in mid-speech... genius!

Last update: April 5, 2001

NES FANZ

NES FANZ Juggalo/Hulkamaniac
Info:

My site. Spot lives, much clown love and Hulk still rules!

NESFAQs

NESFAQs Dan Giglio
Info:

An interesting site with stuff like NES Collision (pictures that contain sprites from various games) and even a section where you had to guess a randomly picked NES tune in MIDI format and guess what game it came from. It's a shame the site is gone. NES FAQs was once NES Collision... a little tidbit.

Last update: October 1, 2006

The NES Files

The NES Files Sensible Software Solutions
Info:

A site that focuses more on the games more than anything. They have box pics, sound files, even suggestions from people about the game.

NES Forever

NES Forever PGC
Info:

A snazzy-looking site, it's now archived off of Nintendo Player. This is definitely a piece of NES Scene history that should be kept.

Last update: June 17, 2002

NES Fort

NES Fort Slayer X
Info:

One of the many attempts at Slayer X's NES sites. The dude has had this one, NES Site #0510, Nintendo Realm, and NES Future. Ironic enough, they have all died. So much for holding the "Fort".

Last update: January 16, 2005

NES Forums Qix
Info:

I guess it may be the very first NES Forums site on the internet. Regardless, it was once replaced by a Bob Sagat page somehow, and then it was given a new URL. The forum is still up except your are greeted with this nice message:

"The forum is closed. Get lost." - cdb900.

Why do they come in so eager and leave so bitter? Here's a link with some more info on the closure of the site

Last update: 2003

The NES Fountain

The NES Fountain Ruudos
Info:

This is a NES site out of The Netherlands with a lot to offer. I don't know how, but this guy managed to track down about a dozen former Nintendo Game Counselors for interviews. There are also some very original articles to be found, including a list of the top 10 NES Valentine games. Nothing says love like a game of Popeye.

Last update: January 12, 2004

NES Gurls

NES Gurls JD Turbville
Info:

Yeah, this site is a joke and nothing more. I'm still not sure who the "gurls" are or even if they know what a NES is, oh well.

Last update: March 13, 2002

NES Horsemen

NES Horsemen Mercury Crusader
Info:

I site full of funny stuff. It has all kinds of stuff like reviews, but the site also has info on manners not associated with the NES as well. The site was named after the legendary Four Horsemen faction of NWA wrestling fame if you wondered.

NES House

NES House Funpolice4
Info:

Some old stuff right here, but its nice. Codes, games, Zelda Maps, and more. You can tell that NES House had heart.

Last update: 1998

NES Headquarters

NES HQ AndrewM
Info:

Your common NES site that I suppose that's been around for a while. It has dozens of game info including sounds, scans of all sorts, and more.

The NES Jackal

The NES Jackal The NES Jackal
Info:

Last update: 1999

The NESkimos

The NESkimos Dr. Wiley
Info:

This is the official site of NES cover band, the NESkimos. It features guitar tabs, tour dates, CD list, comics, and links for song downloads! Don't forget to check out my Cover Bands page!

The NES Kingdom

The NES Kingdom Unknown
Info:

This site has a nice banner and some interesting sections. The one about the Lottery modem that fits at the bottom of the NES is awesome.

Last update: August 24, 2002

NES Land

NES Land Ernster
Info:

This site's whereabouts is kind of a mess. It supposedly stole stuff from Nintendo Player, then it merged with 8-Bit HQ, and then it was hosted by NES Channel and then it disappeared. A site that was marred with controversy none the less. There was even a mock site of NES Land called, "NES Planet". You could say the site from the "Land Down Under" fell under.

Here's a link to the page that details the NES Player/NES Land controversy

Last update: APril 18, 2005

NES Life

NES Life campkill
Info:

This site is pretty fresh to look at. With the modified beach level from TMNT3 greeting you saying NES Life on the sign with shrines of Jaws and Legend of Kage, it definitely makes the site unique. The site once merged with NES Alternative but the site returned some time in 2005. The site has been pretty much dead since 2005, the last update for Horse the Band.

Last update: November 27, 2005

NES Monster

NES Monster NES monster
Info:

The grandfather to NES City, I've never actually seen the site but I know it was merged into NES City so most of its contents must've been great.

Last update: October 11, 2003

NES Nation

NES Nation Steven Gehrke
Info:

NES Nation has been killed off and resurrected that many times, I'm not even sure what to say here. Its last resurrection was in 2005 when the boys at NES Channel hosted it there, and then gave it its own URL. None the less, even though they combined many sites into Nation (NES World Wide comes to mind) and along with all of the other hundreds of stuff it had, it still looked like shit! "It's supposed to be up forever this time.", my ass! The design looks and reeks of 1995 and its a bad layout. If a site has been dropped so many times, why bother bringing it back again? They should've merged Nation into NWW... at least that one had a better layout and a fresh staff.

Last update: May 16, 2005

NES Nation Forums

NES Nation Forums cracked8ball
Info:

Here's the infamous NES Nation Forums. It was resurrected along with NES Nation in an attempt to replace the hacked NES Channel Forums. Of course, if it happens once... it'll happen again and it did. NES Nation Forums lasted 4 months I believe.

Last update: May 16, 2005

NES News

NES News Joey Anderson
Info:

At the 2005 revival of the NES scene, my friend and webmaster of Nintendo City, Joey Anderson dropped a bomb on the called NES News. The site kept a list of dead and active NES sites as well as updates for each one. The site hasn't been updated since due to the NES scene being rapped and all... the last entry should give you a clue to that.

Last update: September 1, 2005

NES Phone

NES Phone FlowingMindSpin, MinkisP & jackalneo
Info:

It was a funny site which I believe was a subsidiary off of NES City. I'm not quite sure why it doesn't exist anymore I mean, NES City still exists. Oh well, good while it lasted.

Last update: June 19, 2004

The NES Pit

The NES Pit Niels
Info:

This page is chocked full of some dudes Nintendo collection, from NES to Game Boy Advance. There's also many prototypes of SNES games and everything. He hasn't updated since 2004 though... maybe he'll return?

Last update: December 14, 2004

NES Planet

NES Planet Ace

This site was made as a diss to NES Land which at the time (2003) was said to have ripped off stuff from Nintendo Player (then NES Player).

Last update: 2003

NES Power

NES Power Flip
Info:

The site looks to be forgotten but none the less the dude had inspiration. A lot of cool sections like: NES Marathon and NES Stories. And boy does he have the collection or what!?

Last update: April 3, 2003

NES Retreat

NES Retreat Deathspork
Info:

An old school NES site that you could "retreat" to I guess. It's too bad the webmaster gave up or "retreated" so early.

Last update: December 4, 2004

NES Site #0510

NES Site #0510 Slayer X
Info:

This was a new site that bit the dust a while back and had some great stuff on it. Oh yeah, the number, "0510" stands for the webmaster's birthday I think, "05/10" or May 10.

Last update: January 16, 2005

NES Times

NES Times Adam King
Info:

The original NES Times, it is a site that's been around since 1995 or something but regardless is still updated.

NES Times

NES Times Andrew Baranyi
Info:

The second NES Times which has nothing to do with the original, he has all kinds of cool flash/animations on his pages which rock.

Last update: August 7, 2003

NEStopia

NEStopia Double L
Info:

Last updated in 2001, the layout looks kind of dull; a gray background. It's nothing like my kick-ass purple space background I once used but who's judging? I'm sure he had his reasons.

Last update: March 25, 2001

NEStravaganza

NEStravaganza the capn
Info:

The Capn put this site up in 2001 and hasn't been updated since. He did say there was more yet to come... I guess his computer broke or somethin' or he moved on in life.

Last update: March 3, 2001

The NES Triforce

The NES Triforce Linque
Info:

From what I know, this site was very cool back in 1999 and it also used the "joystix" font idea that I use now (who knew?)! More stuff on NES Triforce included: Cart Destruction, Game Genie codes archive, comics, reviews, and more.

Last update: October 13, 2001

NESurbia

NESurbia Krazy Koopa
Info:

A very creative site where a different Koopa Kid is in charge of each section! I just wish she'd (I think a girl owns it) bring it back someday.

Last update: February 27, 2004

NESvania

NESvania Cracked8ball
Info:

C8B has returned with this new, good looking site for about 2 weeks lol. It had some elements of former site, NES World Wide and the name, NESvania is quite catchy. Of course, it died before it even started, I think he's trying to bring back NWW sometime in the future or have an excuse to give mustache rides to SlayerX... who knows?

Last update: May 2006

NES Vortex

NES Vortex BPZ
Info:

It wasn't updated since 2004, so I think its safe to say that the Vortex is dead. The site has some interesting stuff like NES Survivor where you vote off NES accessories and games!

Last update: July 11, 2004

NES Warehouse

NES Warehouse ksmith
Info:

Nothing works. This warehouse is empty... no the links work and the top 20 NES games, but that's it. That yellow background rocks.

Last update: 2000

The NES Warrior

The NES Warrior NES Warrior
Info:

Another specimen from 2000, it was also last updated in 2000 so it's safe to say it's dead. It had talent though.

Last update: April 4, 2004

NES World

NES World Martin Nielsen
Info:

A huge site with tons of information on prototypes, unreleased, pirates, and PAL games owned by a guy from Europe named Martin.

NES World Wide

NES World Wide Cracked8ball
Info:

An awesome site, NWW was also regarded as a classic in the NES Scene and C8B did manage to return it to its former glory back in 2005 by hosting it on NES Channel. It was later merged into the resurrected NES Nation.

Last update: April 3, 2005

NES Zone

NES Zone Sean
Info:

A nicely designed site, the Fake NES Games section was awesome. This site is a rare breed, one that doesn't waste it's time on useless reviews and codes. Instead it gives the people what they really wanna see, somebody blowing NES carts to pieces with firecrackers! There's a lot of interesting info to be found as well, including a section that compares NES betas to final releases. Anybody looking for a current NES site should check this one out.

As of right now, on Dec. 8/06, ClawX supposedly owns it now. Oh, as of Dec. 21/06, C8B owns it! What a swerve!

Info:

A site hosted by classicgaming.com, all the info on Ninja Gaiden is covered here... from the arcade version in the 80's to the Shitbox version of 2004. The only negative point of this site is the fact that he blames the failure of Ninja Gaiden Trilogy for SNES on Nintendo when it was really Tecmo's fault.

Nintendo-A-Gogo

Nintendo-A-Gogo Jason Vincion
Info:

It is back and looking good. This site has a lot of cool stuff on it, only bad thing is that it plays annoying music on every page. So turn off your speakers and check this one out. lol

Nintendo Incorporated

Nintendo Incorporated Bubblun, SPMAN
Info:

This site seems to take a look at all or most of the companies associated with the NES. The ass whipping animation disturbs me though.

It really is not much to look at, the guestbook and links don't work, and there's a collection page... amazing. But, the site is a member of CVGS, along with other sites like Nintendo Player, the OG NES Times, and my site of course.

Nintendo Player

Nintendo Player Mike
Info:

One of the greatest sites I have ever visited in my life, I first discovered this site when looking up something on Ice Hockey and came across the Ice Hockey review and was greeted with a nice MIDI version of the zamboni song. There's hundreds of shit there... unfortunately there's not enough room here to explain it all... just visit the site!

Nintendo's University of Classic Gaming

Nintendo's University of Classic Gaming Jason Vincion, FlowingMindSpin
Info:

The NUCG was a collaboration of various NES Scener's: Jason Vincton (Nintendo-A-Gogo), FlowingMindSpin (NES Chedda), ClawX (Claw's PeNES), Dan Giglio (NESFAQs), and MinkisP (NES Chedda). It was a nice idea; all these dudes developing things like reviews, shrines, articles, and even songs to display in sections that represent buildings as if on a REAL campus! For example, the reviews were held in "Review Windmill Center", "Shrine of Dhama" for shrines and get this, ClawX's hate is represented and kept in, "Claw's Dragon Warrior Hate Center"! The boys were truly on to something... not sure why it died. I guess lack of stuff happening or somethin'.

The Ogre's Planet: NES

The Ogre's Planet: NES Ogre Hombre
Info:

A really cool site, very organized and it looks awesome for a 90's website. The NES music page is a little fruity, I like to listen to the NES's music when I play and not punk, but that's just me. Also, what's with the Mr. T stuff?

P

PaNESian Press

PaNESian Press Old-School Gamer
Info:

A site that acted like a monthly magazine with different articles, reviews, and so on and so forth. It featured many of the OG NES Sceners and others who sent in these features: Old-School Gamer, Sappy, Goat, JD Turbeville, SuperJoeJR, Mr. Neilsen (not Martin from NES World), aWinnerIsYou, BkdTatrHrt, Kabuki, Damien C, Sqwirl, Tato, The Capn, DeathSpork, Sheik482, Bubblun, Chad Green, ShadowMan024, Kuririn, Keat, Cl@y, Danbird, Gromar, Glantern, Duderanch, Offspringer, Pavol, Loogaroo,  Snazzy Taz, and Andreas

You've got to admit, it was a great idea. I'm just trying to figure out what the deal was with the "subscribers". I guess it was a term for the fans and viewers of the site.

It had a cool ring to it though: A dude from Final Fantasy makes an NES site and knows all forms of magic. If he had all that magic why not bring the NES back to life or make thousands of copies of games or create his own. Heck, why not make a better site?

Info:

A really nice NES site. Very interesting to see all the info on these games like proto-types and unreleased.
